Resolved Question

I have seen a shop which is near a train station, that I'm thinking of leasing,?

I'd anticipate sales from comuters and so would like to start later in the morning but close around 8pm. Are there any restrictions on retail opening hours in the UK.
I sell lingerie btw
Thanks

Check with local council and with terms of lease.

  • There may be a few purely local restrictions, but in general, there is only the Sunday Trading laws that seem likely to affect your type of business. I do have to wonder about your supposition of sales from commuters due to being near a train station. Commuters in general seem to be rushing to catch a train or rushing from the train to get home. I am a little sceptical as to how much business you would actually get from that sector of the public.

  • Key Facts:
Under the Sunday Trading Act 1994, the restrictions on shop opening hours are:

    • Small shops (up to 280 sq m/3,000 sq ft) - no restrictions on opening hours

    • Large shops (over 280 sq m/3,000 sq ft)

Monday to Saturday - no restrictions
Sunday – can only open for 6 continual hours, between 10am and 6pm
    Easter Sunday - closed

  • the only restriction in the UK is the Sunday Trading hours - which at 10am til 4pm. Some shops are allowed to open later, depending on their floorspace.
