Why would a pub have a contract with a taxi firm to just sit in the car for 2 hours?

Resolved Question

Why would a pub have a contract with a taxi firm to just sit in the car for 2 hours?

a friend of mine works for a taxi company on the radio, but last night she said she was asked to sit in a taxi for 2 hours and get paid for it, she says it is a contract from a pub to do it, but i have never heard of this before.

what does it sound like to you?
personally it sounds like she is selling her body, or am i just being daft?

Perhaps the pub has had a problem with drunk drivers and made a deal with the authorities to have a taxi available. The taxi service knows from past experience that no one uses the cab so they had your friend just sit there to fulfill their contract.

  • Because you can't hail a mini-cab. So the Pub has to book the cab for use by it's customers when they come out. Of course there may not be any customers every day.
